The "two sizes" trap
Both products advertise two sizes. They do not mean the same thing, and this is where most people buying blind get it wrong.
ZQuiet's two sizes are two jaw positions. Comfort Size 1 pushes your jaw forward 2 mm. Comfort Size 2 pushes it 6 mm. Same tray, same footprint, different advancement. You try both and keep whichever works.
VitalSleep's two sizes are two mouths. A larger size and a smaller size, with a different physical footprint. The advancement is separate and handled by the screw.
That matters if you have a smaller jaw. A single universal tray has to fit everyone, and "fits most adults" is not the same sentence as "fits you." If ZQuiet's tray is too large for your mouth, neither of their two sizes fixes it, because the size difference is in the hinge, not the tray.
Where the 2 mm gap bites
Jaw advancement is the part of any mouthpiece that decides whether it works and whether it hurts. Too little and you still snore. Too much and you wake up with a sore jaw and quit by week two.
ZQuiet's answer is two presets. If 2 mm leaves you snoring and 6 mm makes your jaw ache, you have run out of options. There is no 3, 4 or 5.
VitalSleep's answer is a hex wrench. You start low, advance a millimeter every few nights, and stop when the snoring settles. If you overshoot, you back it off. That is the difference between finding your setting and hoping one of two presets happens to be it.
Where ZQuiet is the better buy
We sell one of these, so take the following for what it is. But there are real cases where ZQuiet is the right call and we would rather say so than have you find out after you buy.
You want it working the first night. No boiling, no molding, no waiting. Open the box and wear it.
You cannot stand a rigid tray. ZQuiet's living hinge lets your mouth open and close while you sleep. You can talk and drink water without taking it out. If a fixed-position mouthpiece has made you feel trapped before, that design solves a problem VitalSleep does not.
You already know your advancement. If you have used a mandibular device before and 2 mm or 6 mm is your number, the fine adjustment is a feature you will not use.
Cost is not the sticker price
Neither of us is expensive next to a dentist-made appliance, and we are not going to pretend a price gap of a few dollars decides this.
What is worth doing is the arithmetic on a year. ZQuiet recommends replacing the mouthpiece every 4 to 6 months. That is two to three units a year. VitalSleep is built to last about a year, and the one-year warranty covers a replacement for any reason during it.
Run whatever the current prices are through that and the picture changes. Check both sites for current pricing, since it moves on both sides.
Which one fits which snorer
ZQuiet makes more sense if

- You have straight front teeth, which is what their Comfort model is built around
- You already know your jaw advancement number
VitalSleep makes more sense if
- You want the tray shaped to your own teeth rather than a universal fit
- You have a smaller jaw and standard mouthpieces have felt too big
- You want to dial the advancement in slowly instead of picking a preset
- You want a full year of replacement coverage, not just a return window
Common questions
Does ZQuiet need to be molded?
No. ZQuiet's Comfort mouthpieces are ready to wear out of the box, with no boiling or molding. VitalSleep uses a boil-and-bite process that shapes the tray to your teeth.
Which one adjusts more?
VitalSleep, and by a wide margin in terms of control. VitalSleep moves in 1 mm increments up to 8 mm. ZQuiet Comfort offers two fixed positions, 2 mm and 6 mm, with nothing in between.
What if the size I order is wrong?
We exchange it for the other size free. ZQuiet includes both of their advancement options in the starter pack, so you try both and keep the one that works.
Do either of these treat sleep apnea?
We can only speak to our own product. VitalSleep is FDA-cleared for snoring reduction and is not a treatment for sleep apnea. If you stop breathing in your sleep, wake up gasping, or feel exhausted no matter how long you sleep, see a doctor before buying any mouthpiece.
What about dentures, implants or crowns?
Any mandibular advancement device relies on your teeth to hold position. Check with your dentist first if you have dentures, partials, implants, crowns, or loose teeth.
