What you need to fit it

A bowl of hot water, a bowl of cold water, and a timer.

Step 1: Start with the right size

VitalSleep comes in two sizes. The women's size is about 10% smaller for smaller mouths. Size is the one thing molding cannot fix, so if the tray feels too wide or too narrow across your front teeth after you mold it, that is a size issue. Size exchanges are free.

Step 2: Mold it to your teeth

  1. Heat itPlace the mouthpiece in hot water for 45 seconds.
  2. Cool it brieflyMove it to cold water for 3 seconds so it is safe to put in your mouth.
  3. Bite downBite firmly and hold to press your teeth into the material.
  4. Set the impressionReturn it to cold water so the impression holds its shape.

Not happy with it? Repeat the molding process. There is no penalty for a second attempt, and a clean impression is worth the extra five minutes.

Once it is molded, keep it away from hot water. Heat softens the material and releases your impression.

Step 3: Adjust the jaw setting

This is the step most people skip, and it is the one that decides your result. The patented Accu-Adjust System moves the lower tray forward to open your airway. The range is 0 to 8 mm, in 1 mm steps.

  • Start low. Sleep a night or two at the starting position before you change anything.
  • Move 1 mm at a time. Use the included tool and turn both screws the same amount so the lower tray stays even.
  • Give each setting two or three nights. Your mouth needs time to settle before you judge a position.
  • Let comfort set the limit. If your jaw feels tight in the morning, go back a millimeter and stay there.

Most people land on their setting well before the top of the range. You can keep adjusting any time without remolding.

Step 4: Clean it every morning

  • Brush it with cool water, a soft toothbrush and toothpaste, or soak it in a denture cleaner for about 15 minutes.
  • Rinse with cool water and let it air dry.
  • Never use hot water, boiling water or a dishwasher after molding.
  • Store it dry in the travel case, out of direct sun and away from pets.

What the first week feels like

Expect a few nights of adjustment while your mouth gets used to wearing a mouthpiece. Make small changes, one at a time, rather than large jumps forward. If discomfort continues, stop using it and speak with a dental professional.

Troubleshooting

Still snoring after a weekAdvance another millimeter and give it three nights before judging. Snoring reduction usually arrives a millimeter or two past the setting that feels like nothing is happening.
It comes loose at nightRemold it and bite down harder this time. If it still moves once the impression is clean, you are likely in the wrong size.
Your jaw feels tight in the morningBack off one millimeter and hold there for a few nights. Tightness means you moved forward faster than your jaw wanted to.
The tray feels too wide or too narrowThat is size, not molding. Ask for a free size exchange.
You wear full denturesVitalSleep needs natural teeth to hold position. With partial dentures, check with your dentist first.
